How do I scan a card?

Open the Scan tab and hold the card flat in front of the camera, in the outline. Line up the card’s bottom-left corner with the dashed box: that is where modern cards print the set code and the number, and it is the first thing Binder reads. When it has the number it shows you the card, with a pill for each printing — tap the one in your hand and it is in your collection.

Tips for a clean read

• Good, even light. A lamp behind the phone is better than a window behind the card. Glare on a holo is the single most common reason a number will not read.
• Hold still for a beat. Binder reads continuously; it needs one sharp frame.
• Keep the bottom edge in frame. The number is small. Filling the outline with the card gives the camera enough pixels to read it.
• Sleeves are fine, unless the sleeve is scuffed or reflective over the number.

Scanning a stack from one set

Tap the Any set chip at the top of the Scan screen and lock the set you are sorting. Every scan then looks up the number in that set alone, which is faster and removes the question of which set a “25/102” belongs to. The lock stays on until you change it.

The scan did not match

Binder shows the number it read. If several sets share that number and no set is locked, it asks which one you mean. If the number could not be read at all — worn print, a bad angle, an old card whose number sits somewhere unusual — Binder can compare a photo of the card against the catalogue’s artwork instead; that fallback sends a crop of the card to our server and keeps nothing (see the privacy policy). If it still comes up empty, browse to the set and tap the card; adding by hand is the same one tap on the variant pill.

Why does Binder ask for the camera?

To scan cards, and for nothing else. Nothing is recorded, and the camera is only on while the Scan tab is open. Every other screen works without the permission.

Cards and variants

What are the variants?

The printings a card exists in: Normal, Reverse holo, Holo and, for the oldest sets, 1st edition. Each is tracked on its own, so ticking Reverse holo does not tick Normal. A card only shows the variants it was actually printed in.

What does “owned” mean?

That you have at least one copy of that card in that printing. A card counts towards a set’s progress as soon as one of its variants is owned; it is complete when every variant is. Quantity and condition are optional extras on the card’s own page — leave them alone unless you want them.

A card, a number or a variant is wrong

The catalogue is assembled from public sources and mistakes get through. Email the set, the number and what is wrong to support@farpine.com; corrections reach the app with the next daily refresh, no update needed.

Prices

Where do the prices come from?

Market prices come from TCGplayer in US dollars and from Cardmarket in euros, and are refreshed roughly daily. “Market” is the marketplace’s own market-price figure — roughly what copies have recently been selling for — not the lowest listing, not the highest, and not what a shop would pay you for the card. Treat it as a guide, and check before you trade.

A card shows no price

Then the marketplaces have no market figure for it — usually a very new card, a very old one, or a printing that rarely sells. Binder shows nothing rather than guessing, and lists such cards as “unpriced” in the totals.

Set value and collection value

A set’s page shows two figures: the whole set at market, and yours — what the copies you own in it are worth. The collection figure is the same sum over everything you own. Both count quantity: three copies count three times.

Wishlist and trades

Wishlist or For trade?

Want is the wishlist: the cards you are after, down to the printing. For trade is the spares you would swap. Both are set from the card’s page, both live beside your collection, and both are per variant, so you can want the reverse holo of a card you already own in normal.

Removing a card from a list

Tap the cross on its row in the list, or clear the pill on the card’s page. Marking a card owned does not remove it from the wishlist by itself — sometimes you want a second copy.

Offline

What works without a connection?

Everything you have already looked at: the sets and cards you have opened are kept on the phone, and ticking cards works offline. The changes queue up and sync the moment you are back on a connection. Looking up a card you have not seen before, and scanning, need the server, so they wait for a signal.

Your account

Signing in on another phone

Install Binder and sign in with the same email address and password. Your collection, wishlist and trade list are on the server, so they are there the moment you sign in. You can stay signed in on more than one phone.

I forgot my password

There is no reset link yet. Email support@farpine.com from the address on the account and we will sort it out by hand.

Deleting my account

Settings ▸ Account ▸ Delete account. It removes the account, the collection, the lists and every session immediately and for good. Usage events are cut loose from the account at the same moment — no user id left on them — and deleted within a year. If you would rather we did it, email us from the account’s address.

Privacy

An email address, a hashed password, your collection and lists, and plain usage counts, on a server we run. No ads, no trackers, no third parties. The full privacy policy is short and worth reading.
